This isn’t her child. Her child wouldn’t make her do this to him, wouldn’t make her hold him in the water and then strike him with iron to prove that he isn’t hers.  

He wouldn’t torture her like this.

He’s crying out now, but she has to do this. They can’t afford a fake child.

Written for FFM 2016, Day 27, Challenge 555.

1. Story has to be 55 words.
2. Must be speculative fiction (fantasy, in this case. Changeling fantasy at that).
3. No dialogue.

Wow, this one hurts. This sentence especially: Her child wouldn’t make her do this to him, wouldn’t make her hold him in the water and then strike him with iron to prove that he isn’t hers. That twisted logic is terrifying.

Very effective. I love this one.
